Ode to Music

Written for Verse First - Difficulty

"More often than not in poetry I find difficulty to be gratuitous and show-offy and  camouflaging, experimental to a kind of insane degree--a difficulty which really ignores the possibility of having a sensible reader." Billy Collins

Your assignment should be clear. Write a poem, no more than three stanzas, that is completely free of "gratuitous, show-offy, camouflaging" text.

Music soothes my heart
It brings me peace
It relaxes my mind
So my troubles can release

Music makes my spirit dance
It makes me smile
It fills me with joy
So I can dream awhile

Music makes my soul soar
It inspires and lifts
It brings me closer to Him
So I can receive His blessings and gifts

    Music does the same thing for me. I feel lost without it. Thus, I have it with me everyday in the form of a MP# player. I can load up my favorites and play them over and over again!

    music is def evocative...and can transform our moods...we were at the open air mall yesterday and there were street musicians...it was interesting to see how their music touched those that passed....

      Hi Brian, isn't it amazing how music can change the entire atmosphere. The Saturday Farmer's Market that I visit always has a busker or two and it just makes the experience more enjoyable.

    Wonderful poem, Suzy! You've expressed my sentiments exactly. When I play my flute or sing with the choir, I feel all those emotions you describe. And just listening to a beautiful piece of music can move me, too. What would we do without music? Life would be very dull and drab, indeed.

    ...Suzy, your last stanza is so perfect for its message conveyed... life is so full of music... i just couldn't imagine waking up a day without feeling & hearing music somewhere... i don't have the most powerful vocals but i do know how to sing from the heart... i loved this... smiles...

    Music can certainly lift the spirit, well unless its C/W then its mostly just depressing! Classical, yes that's more like it, beautiful, composed and energizing! Enjoyed the write!
