A Letter to Classmates

Last Sunday my school classmate passed away suddenly. He was much loved and will be missed by all his classmates.

I wrote a poem for him and for my classmates who are shocked and saddened by his tragic death. Sharing here with all of you.

When the Great Spirit in the sky
Called me back to my heavenly home
I found my wings to soar and fly
And through the cosmos roam

The melody that enticed my soul
And coaxed me leave my wondrous Earth
Led me to Him and made me whole
And showed me all my worth

I journeyed through life upon the sea
I laughed and sang and danced
But know that now I'm home and free
Life was just a moment that I glanced

My friends and loves I left behind
Someday again we'll meet
For in that great heaven you will find
A classroom with our seats.

R.I.P dear friend xoxo

Tranquility

For a few hushed moments. I sat in solitude
Watching majestic mountains, Giving gratitude

The silence so refreshing, Quietening the mind
My soul nourishing, Answers I could find

In meditative Zenning, Perhaps a connection I did make
A spark of self healing, In a Divinely loving state

I liked that quiet moment, When serenity prevailed
Tranquility so potent, Renewal it entailed

But did it really happen, Did I reach that heavenly state
Was it something I imagined, Regardless I celebrate

If I Could Walk With Angels

Written for:
Animation with Midweek Motif
Artistic Impressions (photo prompt) with Real Toads

If I could walk with Angels
I wonder what I'd see
Dwellings made of fluffy clouds
Or shimmering cities in the sea
Perhaps flowers glowing in meadows
With prancing Unicorns
A crystal lake with rainbow lights
And golden baby fawns

If I could dance with Angels
We'd be flying in the skies
Through cities made of pretty gems
Through stars like twinkling eyes
We'd leave a trail of neon lights
And sparkling diamond bands
And swirls of jewelled moonbeams
Through mystical cosmic lands

Perhaps I walk with Angels
Each and every day
Perhaps they also dance with me
And speak and sing and play
When life takes me through the woods
With falling leaves that startle
With Angel swish trees change to lollipops
And luck comes through a feng shui turtle

I wonder what they look like
Perhaps like you and me
Or the face I saw upon a board
Or like the sweet child running free
I know I walk with Angels
And dance and sing and play
And when I hear the swish of wings
I know they are here to stay.

Fire up that passion

In the midst of all confusion
An answer suddenly appears
Destroying all illusion
Removing every fear

Perhaps it's not what you expected
Opposite to your thoughts
Something you rejected
Or secretly longed for

Embrace the presented moment
The event is meant to be
Perhaps time for some atonement
Or just to rest and see

Fire up the passion
For what you truly want to do
Take the time for self compassion
Make your wildest dreams come true

Poem inspired by recent events in my life.

September was an up and down month. I finished up at work 30 Sept as my contract came to an end. Initially I was on the lookout for a new contract and was getting anxious about not finding a job quickly until I got hit with the flu with a vengeance that completely drained me - no energy, no appetite, no strength.

And on the last day at work I just made a split second decision that I was going to take a few months off and simply enjoy life. It's been a hard year and I've done some long hours at work. Not complaining as I've enjoyed every moment of it. But I do need the rest and time for myself to do the things I want to do and to stop and smell the roses and to enjoy the camellias in my garden and to ignite that fire within me to write and rhyme and photograph and dream.

The Pursuit of Happiness

The pursuit of happiness is futile
For happiness lies within
To endeavour to find it is infantile
For it's not contained in a tin

Another cannot provide happiness
For it is a state of being
It is a choice to shed that sadness
By new perspective seeing

To live in perpetual happiness
Seems an impossible thing
But to live in perpetual sadness
Makes life unnecessarily burdening

The pursuit of happiness is futile
For happiness lies within
And sadness follows you mile after mile
Until to happiness you give in.

Eyes Of The Goddess

She closed her eyes in eternal sleep
Her dreams fading into nothing
In life she was her parent's goddess
Kind and compassionate and loving

Her tired body could hold no more
Her soul traumatised and fading
And as she crossed into the light
The Goddess of love stood waiting

Into her arms went the tormented soul
Eyes filled with love She caressed
For the good of all she had sacrificed
Her time had come to be blessed

Her wretched rapists unfeeling and brutal
Think that in their hands lie power
But when they meet that mighty Goddess
In Her eyes will they see anger and fire.

The Goddess metes out to every soul
Karmic lessons due
Swift to love and swift to bless
And swift to punish too

The eyes of the Goddess watch us all
Can you feel her stare?
Fiery and rage filled if you stray
Or tender with love and care.

When Dharma Graced The Earth

In honour of International Mother Language Day on 21 February.

From Wikipedia:
"International Mother Language Day . . .  is an observance held annually worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism."

Compose a poem on any subject/event which includes an experience of more than one language.  Make us experience it too.

In Ayodhya did Lord Ram take birth
In the era of Treta Yug
And Sita Dharti Mata's (Mother Earth) girl
Born as his love so true.

His purpose to come upon this Earth
Vinash (Destruction) of evil that was spreading
To also show our atma's (soul) true worth
And soul's liberating.

Dharma (Righteousness) was His life's principle
Maryada Purushottam (Lord Ram the Greatest of men)
A warrior gentle but invincible
Sweet Sita his prema (love) devotion.

How blessed were they in Treta Yug
With Him to be face to face
Perhaps they'd done some great punya (merits)
To earn his love and grace.

The Lord has promised in every yug (age)
To walk upon the Earth
And so in this troubled age of Kali Yug
We await that Divya (Divine) birth.

~x~

Lord Ram = 7th avatar of Bhagwan (God) Vishnu

Sita = avatar of Goddess Laxmi, Lord Vishnu's consort

Yug = an era within a four age cycle called a kalpa, A kalpa is the period of time between the creation and recreation of a world or universe (from Wikipedia)

Treta Yug = the 2nd cycle within a kalpa

Kali Yug = the 4th age within a kalpa and the current age we are in. Kali Yug is supposed to be the age of destruction after which the golden age (Satya Yug) will begin again.

Dharma = is a difficult concept to explain as it encompasses many things - right action, right thought, right speech, right conduct, right way of living, virtues, respect, duty, good character, upholding law and order, religious / spiritual merit among other things.

Maryada Purushottam = Maryada = limits,  Purushottam - greatest of all men. Lord Ram although Divine and the avatar of Lord Vishnu always acted within human limitations and did not use his Divine powers. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, king, friend and an upholder of dharma. He was a great and fearless warrior and annihilated evil from the Earth. Hence he was called Maryada Purshottam the greatest of all men who lived upholding human limitations.

Punya =  that which accumulates as a result of good deeds, acts, or thoughts and which carries over throughout the life or the subsequent incarnations (from Wikipedia)

God's promise:
Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya Glanir Bhavati Bharatha
Abhyuthanam Adharmasya Tadathmanam Srijamyaham.
Parithranaya Sadhunam Vinashayacha Dushkritham
Dharma Samsthapanarthaya Sambhavami Yuge Yuge

Whenever there is a fall in righteousness and a rise of unrighteousness,
I manifest
For the protection of the good, for the annihilation of evil and
to re-establish righteousness, I appear millennium after millennium.

Love Is Not A Greeting Card

The love story of Lord Rama and Sita is timeless and Divine. A love for all seasons.

What would I say to Sita if I were Lord Rama?

Oh Sita, behold the resplendent full moon that hides when you walk by
For it cannot match your effulgent light that is a beacon in space

Oh Sita, the flowers of the forest long to be fragrant like you
For you are the sweet scent of purity and joy

Oh Sita, the birds of the world listen intently when you speak
For your words are the melodious sound of the Universe

Oh Sita, without you this Rama is like a boat lost at sea
For you are balm that soothes the turbulent waters of my mind

Oh Sita, without you this Rama is bereft of life itself
For you are the essence of my soul and the breath of my cosmos

What would I say to Lord Rama if I were Sita?

Oh Rama, the glorious sun is dark like the night
For it cannot match the brilliance of your iridescence

Oh Rama, even the mighty thunderous waterfall cannot match your strength
For it is your gentleness that conquers the most formidable foe

Oh Rama, the animals of the forest are mesmerised by your gracefulness
And the lion bows at your feet not from fear but reverence

Oh Rama, without you this Sita has no existence
For you are the life force within me

Oh Rama, this Sita thanks the Lord of all Universes
For each moment in time, for the honour of your love, for the bliss that is you.

~x~

Hari = Lord Vishnu = Lord Rama
Anant / Ananta = eternal, infinite, timeless

The Choices We Make

My 50th poem!

I wrote a poem for a guest post I did for Carol Graham's blog Battered Hope early this month. Thought I would share it here as well.

I wrote this poem on the bus on the way to work. Observing people on the bus and outside on the streets was the inspiration for this poem.

We reach our destinations
In our own time and way
Many stops at many stations
Sometimes we go, sometimes we stay

Many points of destiny
Some choices we can make
Don't give it too much scrutiny
There's always give and take

All things in life must balance
No constant joy or sorrow
Most things are not a game of chance
In His plan we trust and follow.

Serendipitous Seventh Heaven

Written for:
Poet's United Midweek Motif prompt: write a poem centred on Sevenths

In wanderings in cosmic fields
I came upon an Earth
A serendipitous moment
A promise of great mirth

In planetary lokas
A place that seemed like heaven
A place where Gods dreamed to walk
In that group of seven

How blessed am I to be here
Such beauty wild and rare
Upon the Earth I'll come again
To show some love and care

~x~

Lokas - Planetary systems in Vedic cosmology, The belief is that there are 14 lokas 7 upper and 7 lower. Earth resides within the Bhu-loka mandala which is the 7th of the 7 upper planetary systems where the first is highest and 7th is lowest.

My word for 2015 is Serendipity.

And the year has already begun Serendipitously as a featured poet on Poet's United - Thank you Sherry. And as a guest blogger on Carol Graham's blog Battered Hope that also has a poem inspired by my journey on the bus. Thank you Carol.

The word came to me as I walked around my garden on New Year's day and found these pretty pink flowers that are supposed to bloom in Spring and not Summer.
