The Wealth of Love

We are born of love, love is our mother
~ Rumi

The wealth of love is eternal
No force can away it snatch
An emotion so primal
None other can it match

Available in abundance
Yet so hard for us to find
Forgotten its existence
Lost in vestiges of mankind

The human race must transform
All acts with kndness must it do
Seems harder than the fiercest storm
Is to let the love shine through

Do we even comprehend
What love truly means
It's a divine gift He blessed
With no expectation no fees

Its value so priceless
No gem can hold its light
Yet for it we are careless
And against it often fight

Crossed over then we see its worth
For love is only bliss
Such a wasted time this birth
Love was all that is

The wealth of love is eternal
No force can away it snatch
An emotion so primal
None other can it match

When Dharma Graced The Earth

In honour of International Mother Language Day on 21 February.

From Wikipedia:
"International Mother Language Day . . .  is an observance held annually worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism."

Compose a poem on any subject/event which includes an experience of more than one language.  Make us experience it too.

In Ayodhya did Lord Ram take birth
In the era of Treta Yug
And Sita Dharti Mata's (Mother Earth) girl
Born as his love so true.

His purpose to come upon this Earth
Vinash (Destruction) of evil that was spreading
To also show our atma's (soul) true worth
And soul's liberating.

Dharma (Righteousness) was His life's principle
Maryada Purushottam (Lord Ram the Greatest of men)
A warrior gentle but invincible
Sweet Sita his prema (love) devotion.

How blessed were they in Treta Yug
With Him to be face to face
Perhaps they'd done some great punya (merits)
To earn his love and grace.

The Lord has promised in every yug (age)
To walk upon the Earth
And so in this troubled age of Kali Yug
We await that Divya (Divine) birth.

~x~

Lord Ram = 7th avatar of Bhagwan (God) Vishnu

Sita = avatar of Goddess Laxmi, Lord Vishnu's consort

Yug = an era within a four age cycle called a kalpa, A kalpa is the period of time between the creation and recreation of a world or universe (from Wikipedia)

Treta Yug = the 2nd cycle within a kalpa

Kali Yug = the 4th age within a kalpa and the current age we are in. Kali Yug is supposed to be the age of destruction after which the golden age (Satya Yug) will begin again.

Dharma = is a difficult concept to explain as it encompasses many things - right action, right thought, right speech, right conduct, right way of living, virtues, respect, duty, good character, upholding law and order, religious / spiritual merit among other things.

Maryada Purushottam = Maryada = limits,  Purushottam - greatest of all men. Lord Ram although Divine and the avatar of Lord Vishnu always acted within human limitations and did not use his Divine powers. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, king, friend and an upholder of dharma. He was a great and fearless warrior and annihilated evil from the Earth. Hence he was called Maryada Purshottam the greatest of all men who lived upholding human limitations.

Punya =  that which accumulates as a result of good deeds, acts, or thoughts and which carries over throughout the life or the subsequent incarnations (from Wikipedia)

God's promise:
Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya Glanir Bhavati Bharatha
Abhyuthanam Adharmasya Tadathmanam Srijamyaham.
Parithranaya Sadhunam Vinashayacha Dushkritham
Dharma Samsthapanarthaya Sambhavami Yuge Yuge

Whenever there is a fall in righteousness and a rise of unrighteousness,
I manifest
For the protection of the good, for the annihilation of evil and
to re-establish righteousness, I appear millennium after millennium.

Love Is Not A Greeting Card

The love story of Lord Rama and Sita is timeless and Divine. A love for all seasons.

What would I say to Sita if I were Lord Rama?

Oh Sita, behold the resplendent full moon that hides when you walk by
For it cannot match your effulgent light that is a beacon in space

Oh Sita, the flowers of the forest long to be fragrant like you
For you are the sweet scent of purity and joy

Oh Sita, the birds of the world listen intently when you speak
For your words are the melodious sound of the Universe

Oh Sita, without you this Rama is like a boat lost at sea
For you are balm that soothes the turbulent waters of my mind

Oh Sita, without you this Rama is bereft of life itself
For you are the essence of my soul and the breath of my cosmos

What would I say to Lord Rama if I were Sita?

Oh Rama, the glorious sun is dark like the night
For it cannot match the brilliance of your iridescence

Oh Rama, even the mighty thunderous waterfall cannot match your strength
For it is your gentleness that conquers the most formidable foe

Oh Rama, the animals of the forest are mesmerised by your gracefulness
And the lion bows at your feet not from fear but reverence

Oh Rama, without you this Sita has no existence
For you are the life force within me

Oh Rama, this Sita thanks the Lord of all Universes
For each moment in time, for the honour of your love, for the bliss that is you.

~x~

Hari Anant Hari Katha Ananta

(Lord Rama is eternal, infinite, timeless and so are His tales)

Lord of all Universes = Lord Rama
Hari = Lord Vishnu = Lord Rama
Anant / Ananta = eternal, infinite, timeless
Katha = story / tale / narration

Under God's Heaven

The tattered diary a prized possession
A life described during sad aggression

Senseless killing no one spared
Felt like no one even cared

Don't they know that war is futile
Destroying lives is sad and vile

I hope someday the light will shine
And peace and harmony will fall in line

When one community called humankind
Tolerance and love for each other will find

For our souls they weep in sad despair
And for us all they join in silent prayer

Imagine a world that's just like heaven
Where uplifting others is the only obsession

And kindness is a daily habit
And we feel the presence of the Holy Spirit

The tattered diary was a prized possession
Why don't we learn from it and end repression.

~x~

I chose the diary of Anne Frank as something that would've been quite ordinary but a prized possession to Anne. Her story touches our hearts and is the inspiration behind my poem. What went on in Anne's mind, did she wonder about a time under God's heaven when peace would be the way?

The Spirit Of Love

Prompts this week:
One Single Impression - prompt #279 - Demon
Verse First - Lock
Linking up to Write Tribe picture prompt

write tribe picture prompt - image source

Verse First prompt:

Virginia Woolf once said, "“I thought how unpleasant it is to be locked out; and I thought how it is worse, perhaps, to be locked in.”

Upon consideration, one realizes that being locked - in  or out- can be literal, emotional, medical, figurative.  And there are other meanings to ponder. A lock can be a fastener fitted to a door or drawer to keep it firmly closed. It can be a section of canal that can be closed to control the water level; used to raise or lower vessels that pass through it. Or a lock can be a simple strand or cluster of hair.

Write a poem around the notion of a lock, using whatever meaning sets free your creativity.

Lock the door of my heart so I can behold only you
Hold the key in your hands to the end of time
Let my love not waver nor question this bond
Let my soul shine through like a beacon of love

You and I have sailed the tumultuous seas
In millennium after millennium
Locked our hands that none could break apart
And sang together the songs of our souls

Let me hear again the melody that entices my spirit
And binds me ever closer to you
Let me rest awhile in your loving embrace
So my weary soul may dance again; renewed, refreshed, awakened

~x~

OSI prompt - Demon

The mind is in constant battle with the heart and is the mastermind behind that creeping fear.

Let the demon of doubt vanish from my mind
Let him not start a feud with my heart
Let him no place in my existence find
Let him not tear my soul apart

For love is the key to conquer all
With faith in my heart I free my mind
The demon of doubt then begins to fall
And unlocked are the fearful chains that bind

Loving Heart

Written for:

The heart is the vault where love resides
It's true nature is compassionate and kind
Love is a universal energy, a state of bliss
Individually defined and mine is this ...

Love is your shoulder when I need some rest
Love is a kind word when I'm not at my best
Love is a sweet smile that lights up your face
Love is your unique style no one can replace

Love is a wonder like a blooming rose
Love is that familiar touch that helps me repose
Love is a warm hug that soothes my mind
Love is that universal spark eternal and divine

Love is that energy that brings me peace
Love is to give but also to receive
Love is a little flame that touches my soul
Love is a tender heart that makes me whole

The Mirror Of My Soul

Written for Poets United Mid Week Motif
Linking to:  Poetry Pantry #186

The mirror of my soul my moments reflect
Not just of this life but of sojourns in time
Somehow I know but ever warily suspect
But like a nurturing mother she repeats the mime

If only I look and heed her care
For she is the essence of His love
And yet I rebel and ignore and dare
And close my eyes to her and above

Gently she coaxes and shows me the way
Patience epitomised love never wavering
Until at last in my life breaks that day
When I finally understand my soul's labouring

The mirror of my soul my moments reflect
Not just of this life but of sojourns in time
My soul I am blessed, for you I have met
Now the journey with you in this life is sublime

In A Time Gone By

Written for: Real Toads and  Blogadda WoW

Real Toads prompt
What would it be like if we were stuck in (or have regressed to) the past? Write from the perspective of yourself or another person (real or imagined) who can’t seem to live in the present or look forward; someone who dwells in a supposedly more magnificent or rewarding past time, and behaves accordingly.

Blogadda WoW prompt
Your entry must contain a word in all its three degrees of comparison. For example: Good, Better, Best! or Great, Greater, Greatest!

He looked magnificent
Lean and tall
Upon his chariot
I watched in awe

His bow and his arrows
He carried with grace
Strength of a warrior
But gentle of face

He seemed so familiar
Yet I knew him not
Who was this stranger?
With eyes tender and soft

Graceful and ethereal
He looked so Divine
Joyous he made me feel
Somehow I knew he was mine

Did he know that I watched him?
For suddenly he smiled
My senses he made them swim
As his eyes beheld mine

My garland of flowers
Upon his neck looked so grand
His heart he empowered
Into my trembling hands

In a time long gone
Was this love sweet and pure
A match made in Heaven
Through aeons it endures

Let me stay in that moment
When his eyes beheld mine
And true love was unspoken
And hearts were entwined

For great is He, my love story
Greater than any in time
The greatest ever in glory
And supremely sublime

My take on Sita's view of Lord Rama

The Love With Which It's Given

Written for:

Verse First - The Ordinary
Write about something quite ordinary. In the words of Natalie Goldberg, "Give homage to old coffee cups, sparrows, city buses, thin ham sandwiches."

Poetry Jam - The Last
Use any meaning of last, the final, the most recent, or keeping something going. I am sure there are some other uses of the word "last,"  so go where you will with it. And just for fun lets say it in 20 lines or less.

my little mug given with love by my daughter on my birthday

My ordinary little mug
Sits on the kitchen bench
By my ordinary electric jug
Each morning I do clench

But ordinary this is not
With love to me it came
With love and care it was bought
A present with my name

Someday it will crack and break
Nothing lasts forever
But till then a special place it will take
And my thirst we'll quench together

And when it can't be used again
With sadness I'll let it go
But in my heart it will remain
For love just makes that so

Things don't last forever
That I know is certain
But what lasts and what we treasure
Is the love with which it's given

I Cried Out

Written for:  Verse First    Poetry Jam    G-Man    WoW
Also linking to:  Poetry Pantry #164        dVerse Open Link Night #111

Verse First - I cried out
Write in the first person. Avoid cliches; eschew the ordinary. Surprise, inspire, educate, elucidate. That's it.

Wow - Fun with Repetition
your entry has to have one sentence that is repeated at least thrice in your post. You cannot repeat the sentence consecutively.

Why are you so elusive
I cried out, my beloved Lord
My soul it cannot truly live
Without your love and accord

I cannot find you anywhere
I cried out, my beloved Lord
My soul is weary with many a tear
My heart desolate and gored

Please hear my prayer
I cried out, my beloved Lord
For you are my life, and breath and air
For aeons you I have adored

Let me hear your sweet flute
I cried out, my beloved Lord
For that's my guiding star, the route
That makes my spirit soar.

~x~

Poetry Jam - Vision  and  G-Man -Friday Flash 55

The vision of You
Is a sight to behold
A beautiful blue
And a halo of gold

I sat in awe
As she described You to me
My soul did soar
You set my spirit free

A moment Divine
Is now etched in my soul
I long for another sign
And your vision to hold.

Writers are Lovers

Written for: Verse First and Poetry Jam
Linking to:  Poetry Pantry and dVerse Open Link Night

Verse First - Writers are Lovers
Choose one poet you adore and write a piece to honour or express that adoration.
One of my favourite poets is Jalaludin Rumi. So my poem today is to honour this great poet. My blog headline is a quote by Rumi.

Oh Rumi
Ardent student of Tabrizi
Your poems soothe the soul

Spiritual ecstasy
Divine intimacy
An ode to Spirit
Does truly uplift

Devotion to love
Peaceful like a dove
Heavenly mysticism
Entwined in Him

Spiritually liberating
Life exhilarating
Immortalised in verse
With heartfelt verve

Oh Rumi
Ardent student of Tabrizi
A gift for those who seek their soul

~x~

Poetry Jam - Steps

Life is a journey
Starts with one step
Easy or stormy
Like the flow and ebb

Each step that I take
I learn something new
Asleep or awake
Takes me closer to You

What will I take away?
When I stop my own tread
Savour each moment and day
Don't think too far ahead

Life is a journey
To feel and know
A gift not a tourney
Take steps to grow

 ~x~

He Said, She Said and a Backward Twist

Written for:  Verse First  and  Poetry Jam
Linking to:   dVerse Open Link Night #117

He said it didn't matter if he was there or here
As she was entrenched inside his soul whether far or near

She said even though she understood the spiritual concept
Earthly limits play a part in her feeling quite inept

He said he heard her every word, felt her love and care
Their souls were tightly intertwined, bonds unbreakable and rare

She said she didn't understand why they journey so apart
Although his thoughts do bring her peace they also break her heart

He said that when her time was up he would be waiting on that side
She said the purpose of her life she first had to abide.

~x~

Verse First prompt
Poet and short story writer Grace Paley said, "It is the responsibility of writers to listen to gossip and pass it on. It is the way all storytellers learn about life."
Natalie Goldberg expounded on this idea by saying, "We should learn to talk, not with judgment, greed or envy, but with compassion, wonder and amazement."
Today you have some options. Write about gossip. Write about what happens when wagging tongues do harm. Or not. Write a poem of conversation. Or write about the growth potential when interactions are based on compassion, wonder and amazement. You choose.

Poetry Jam
Write a short poem, 12 lines or less, and then read it backward, from the bottom up. The lines aren't backward, just the order of the lines. Rewrite the poem backward, with the last line first and the first line last: a palindrome poem.

October Connections

Written for:  Verse First  and  Poetry Jam

Verse First - Interconnected
Natalie Goldberg once said, "We are all interwoven and create each other's universes... We don't live for ourselves; we are all interconnected."
You affect me. I affect you. One action begets a series of reactions, which expand the web of connectedness. Every action is a pebble in the pond, every reaction a ripple. And so it goes. Consider the vast truth of this and write about it.

Poetry Jam - October
Be inspired by the month of October. Share what October means to you.

Oh what passion do you ignite
Like a bird soaring high my soul takes flight

A whisper a thought I feel in my heart
Though we are countless miles apart

An invisible connection we do share
An eternal bond so true and rare

Do I meet you in travels to spiritual lands
Do you feed my spirit to knowledge expand

You are the flame that beckons my soul
And only with you can I be whole

~x~

A time in October I came on this Earth
To meet you here, to share some mirth

But Destiny plays a cruel game
Doused your fire, put out the flame

Connections we share through space and time
Knowing you are mine is a feeling sublime

I reach for you through invisible veils
To guide the boat of my life for you are its sails

A time in October I might come again to this Earth
Can we journey here together in my next birth?

~x~

I wrote the first poem a long time ago and thought it fit the prompt.
October is a special month for me, the beginning of my life.

Close to the Source I Swoon.

Written for the following prompts:
One Single Impression - Swoon
The Verse First - Close to the source
Linking to: Poetry Pantry #160   dVerse Open Link Night #107

Verse First's - Close to the source:
Good writing takes the reader on location. Good writing doesn't "talk about," but emanates the warmth, light and life of the topic at hand.  A good poem feels vivid and visceral and close to the source. Today, become the experience. Write from the source. With detailed yet precise language, make us feel your meaning.

So here is my attempt, please let me know if I achieved the goal above and let me know if there were any improvements I could make. Drop by and leave a comment with your thoughts. Thanks.

A haunting melody
Whispering through the forest mist
Tickling my senses
Like a magnet I am drawn

Earthy boots crunching on fallen leaves
Searching blindly for that sweet sound
Footsteps quickening
Anticipation testing my patience

The gurgling sound of a rushing brook
Mesmerising sweet refrain, tantalizingly near
Feet running fast, heartbeats quickening
Eyes aching to behold that source

~x~

One Single Impression - Swoon

And having beheld that source ..

There you sit by the pretty gulmohar
Under the light of a silken moon
That mesmerising sweet refrain
My senses begin to swoon

Mind intoxicated by your presence
Heart a flutter dancing wildly
Senses swimming uncontrollably
Eyes locked and loving blindly.

Appetite and Omniscience

The prompt this week at Verse First is Appetite.  But as I missed last week's prompt Omniscience I thought I would combine both

And also linking to One Single Impression - Fragile

A soothing melody
Invaded my daydream
Gently flowing
Like a singing stream

It teased my thoughts
It disturbed my reverie
It opened my eyes
It shook my lethargy

It came and went
And it was haunting
I was captivated
It increased my longing

I closed my eyes
To capture its essence
It filled me with bliss
I felt His presence

Omniscient
All pervading
Love ineffable
Ever aiding

His Divine grace
Soothed my soul
My appetite insatiable
For His love and to extol

~x~

When we hear the beautiful strains of the Lord's bansuri (flute) we are blessed and yet we so easily forget His love and grace. His melody is everlasting, always enticing, yet we choose only to listen when we need something.

Our love for the Lord is so fragile
It waxes and wanes like the moon
But His love is steadfast without guile
Eternal, and ready to grant any boon

I Remember

The prompt this week at Verse First is a free write with the words

 "I remember"

I remember
As the rain splashes against the window and I gaze out across the greenfields
I thought I saw you standing there looking back at me

I wonder if you remember the time we cycled in the streets of Chichen Itza
The wind blowing through your hair as I sat in front and watched you
We were young and free and life was ours for the taking
We roamed the streets with carefree abandon
Life was simple and yet immensely kind
We had dreams in our hearts and a spring in our step
It mattered not what we did because we enjoyed each moment
And life itself was bliss

I remember a lifetime where we were masters of our entire destiny
We closed our eyes and with our thoughts created magnificent cities
With a wave of our hand we could manifest all we desired
We painted the streets of the universe and created worlds at will
Love and kindness were the only skills we knew
We were in worlds unimaginable and glorious
We were radiant and magnificent.

Where did these lifetimes go?
What became of those worlds?
Where do these thoughts come from? and why?
Did you plant them there as you watch me from somewhere?
Is there some reason behind what I imagine now?

The rain splashes against the window and I gaze out across the greenfields
I am reminded of a time

When we once danced under the rain
And floated little white paper boats in the puddles that formed
I watched you run under the sun and under a blanket of stars
I saw you joyfully gather up the yellow marigolds
And drop them lovingly into my open palms
I remember the joy in our hearts and the light in our eyes
And the awe and wonder with which we viewed our world
And not on a care in the world did we have.
Life was good.

I remember ... and I live again.

Is this myth or is this real?
Did I live these lives and in these worlds?
Or did I imagine it all in my head?
It matters not, for through this to happiness I am led!

A Place in the Universe

A benevolent Universe
Lights my path
Sending me messages
in a myriad of ways
Helping me traverse
through this lifetime
as in lifetimes before

My immortal lover
Holding me
in an eternal embrace
Leading me
In a cosmic dance
Comforting me
Protecting me
From the beyond

My Spiritual guide
Taking my soul
On a journey
Through space and time
Helping me
to liberate myself
From the effects of Karma
 to attain Moksha

My place in the Universe
Is with my Divine Soulmate
In His heart
By His side
Helping humanity
Together
From age to age
To eternity

Quiet Conversations

How strange that I posted a 100 word poem on my blog Someday Somewhere just yesterday. And it fits today's prompt at Verse First .

Your task for this week's Verse First is to write succinctly and boldly about a personal experience. As you do so, rest assured that your readers will share some common ground. Be aware that the writing heals you and the reading heals others.  The only rule: No more than 100 words. Succinct. Bold. GO!

So I share it again ...

image from google images

Each morning I waited as I stood in line.
I loved those moments when his eyes met mine.
No words needed just the beat of hearts.

His time on earth was over, so he left for his home in the sky.
Now I lie alone in the darkness and as I listen to the sounds of silence, I close my eyes.
No words needed just connections through thin veils.

And then I pray to the Heavens with devotion and faith.
And in my dreams He comes to me to comfort and love.
No words needed just the fusion of souls.

Quintessential Love

I am taking part in the A to Z Challenge via my blog Someday Somewhere.

For the letter "Q"  I wrote a poem on my definition of quintessential love which I am sharing here as well.

Come, wake up and love again

For I have lived through the aeons of time with you

We have traversed universes in a multitude of lifetimes

I have loved each beat of your heart, every thought in your mind

I have smiled at every rhythm your soul has orchestrated

And immersed myself in the ecstasy of your every moment

I have seen you in every aspect of my existence

And felt you in the minutest fibre of my being

I have merged my consciousness with yours

And thus bridged the chasm of this vast, endless cosmos

Wherever we are, we reach through thin veils

And blend together into one presence

Now, and then forever.

Longing

For  GBE2's prompt - Longing

Also linking to dVerse Open Link Night

I close my eyes to see yours
For they caress my soul
In the stillness of the night
Your whispers take control

I know I have been with you
Since the beginning of time
You're elusive I can't reach you
To touch a moment sublime

My eyes they gaze across the sea
I listen with intent
I search each nook and cranny
Until my strength is spent

My heart it longs to be with you
Each day becomes a trial
My soul is restless and distressed
Each step feels like a mile
